Like handwriting analysis, which I also do, palmistry is well-suited for corporate gatherings since it's natural, organic and completely inoffensive compared to the occult mystique of tarot cards which outright terrify some superstitious people.
I do what I say, I literally read people's hands. This is in contrast to magicians identifying themselves as mentalists, mind readers or mystery entertainers (to avoid the stigma of being a magician) who've infested the field of “readings.” They’ll bluff their way through a palm reading to perform some trick that demonstrates their all knowing "powers."
For example, ever eager to do a card trick, a magician/mentalist will tell someone “by reading your palm I can figure out what card you would choose.” The magician will have them pick a card from a deck while he looks away and place it face down on the table. He then does a perfunctory palm reading based personality characteristics he’ll later claim lead him to predict which card was chosen. Of course, he knows which card was chosen because the cards are marked and he makes up personality characteristics to fit it. This is just one of the many ways magicians make a sham out of palmistry.
In a revealing “Palm Reading Masterclass” webinar, magician Joe Diamond, who presents himself to the public as a palm reader, fleetingly mentions the four major palm lines before moving on how he sends generic stock readings to people who request them on social media and has written a booklet with 200 scripted lines for magicians to memorize for readings.
He goes on to talk about associating words describing personality traits to the letters in the alphabet and doing a reading based on the letters in a persons name--no knowledge of palmistry required whatsoever. Magicians rather bluff and make a fool of someone than do a legitimate reading.
He endorses using palm reading as a pretext for a mind reading trick where the topic a person is thinking appears to be predicted because it's indirectly revealed by their response to a gimmicked card they're shown. This isn't palmistry, it's a magician's ego trip.
He'll duplicate a drawing made by someone whose palm he's reading not through implied vibrations but by peeking a hidden impression pad they drew on. Videos of his readings posted on social media delete the part where the sitter tells him what they want to discuss so it appears he psychically "knows" their question.
During a reading, he throws out random things he senses, furiously fishing for a "hit" to demonstrate his telepathic prowess. For example, he'll sense there's a man in the sitter's life who has a name that starts with a J or M based on the fact that many male names start with a J or M. If the sitter responds and he gets them to write it down, he'll peek at it and pretend to psychically divine it later during the palm reading. It's not surprising that Joe Diamond is a regular contributor to the Scam Nation You Tube channel.
This is just some of the kind of fraud you can expect from the magicians, mentalists, mind readers and mystery entertainers who take their trickery off stage and do "readings." They're professional liars who delight in conning people.
A palm reading should enlighten. It should reconnect people to themselves and their possibilities NOT deceive and disempower by making them unwitting dupes in a magic show.
